This is an interesting concept that I found myself thinking about today. What exactly does soul eating entail? what are the affects it has on the soul eater, is it just youth or are there other benifits? Does the thirst increase? why, is it due to age or because its addictive so the more you have the more you need type thing? How many souls does a Dark Eldar eat roughly and how many prisoners must we take as a nation each year to sustain this.
I always presumed that there were about 10 million Dark Eldar in existance but looking at some of the facts I'm starting to think that this number might be greatly exadurated, if each Dark Eldar needs to eat a soul a day shall we say that would meen that 3650 million slaves must be taken each year. Is that possible without other races just knowing of us as "the devils that stalk men" and fearing us as myths? Surely if it was the case there would be all out war between us an every other nation and we would be feared and dispised by all, not just those who have seen us.

Hmm, there are a lot of questions in there Hellbrass and I'll do my best to avoide answering any of them. ;D Benefits of soul drinking: well I've always thought the obvious is that they provide renewed youth, streanght and vigour. But I suppose they might also taste nice, maybe like shellfish. Also its my understanding that the thirst does increase with age, but this is not due to ageing itself rather that the longer an Eldar is alive the longer they are exposed to "She Who Thirsts" who constantly eats at the souls of the Dark Eldar. This means that more of their soul is eaten by She Who Thirsts the more the Dark Eldar has to consume to remain "whole" No idea about who many souls an Eldar needs, but in a story at the back of the Codex an Archon says "You have heard tales of I consume a hunderd souls a day. That is but the morsal to whet my appetite. A hunderd times that number die every day to forefil my desire, my need. " So its clear that old Archons, at least, need thousands of souls a day. I'm sure for younger DE its not nearly as much. I think for most DE the eaisest place to get souls from is the city streets. Its say in the codex how dangours the streets of Commorragh are, this is probably because everyone on this ready to kill you just to consume your soul so they can live a little longer. As for "the devils that stalk men" and why no one has ever tried to completely destroy us (apart from our misguided kin) I think this is because of the tactics that we use. We strike hard and fast taking what we want and destroying what we don't, we apear in an instant and are gone just as quickly. Catching us for most races would be like trying to catch their own shadows.

Thousands of souls a day! The guys on EO say that we only take on average about 100 thousand a year!!! Well, they must be wrong, armed with this new fluff I will return to the fray!

The guys on Eldar online are mainly a bunch of no it all that no very little. I hate it there. The guard section of the 40k online put me off even more.
Lets consider this. The guy in the back of the book needs 1000 odd a day. He probably got nothing on vects age. Vects gonna be taking a helluva lot.

getting that number of souls are easy there are billions of Mon'keigh, then orks even our misguided kin the only race we cannot feed on are the necrons and maybe the nids dont know if they have souls and if they do then i guess if times are hard we can feed on animals as well.

Just seems like there should be more to it than just inhaling after you kill the poor sap, I'm guessing if the 'Nids are just bio-organic necrons that chances are they have no soul.

Please turn to the story on the second last page of the codex. Then read the story. Then realise that they do just inhale them and thats all there is to it.

but of course there is no harm in making more interesting ways of eating a soul it can add things to your lord and army

All Dark Eldar absorb souls. Just older ones need more.

I'm guessing if the 'Nids are just bio-organic necrons that chances are they have no soul. I think Nids would because they are living creatures and all living things have a soul I'd guess. Necrons, that's debatable because there souls were supposedly entombed in their new shiny metal bodies when they where changed but whether or not theres anything left of them I dont know.

Yup normal Tzeentch Marines do, and I believe so do the Thousand Sons. This is because if I remember the Rubic of Ahriman destroyed the bodies of the Thousand Sons sealing their souls into their Armour.
