I will soon be starting the new little project of creating my second gaming board. My current board is a 4x4 City Fight board which I have managed to populate quite well, although it can always do with some more buildings. For my second board I want to go somewhere different. So where better than a vast, rolling, sun scorched desert. The board itself will be simple enough as it will be the flip side of my Cityfight board. So 4x4 MDF painted in varying shades of sand colours (haven’t found any yet, colours for my bedroom are more important ). So the board itself is simple enough but I need scenery to cover it. The first idea that I had was a few large Sand Dunes. These could easily be made from sanded down Styrofoam blocks and then painted with lightly textured paint. (Although not spray paint as this would melt to Styrofoam ) My second idea for scenery was a small abandoned outpost or similar. A small building with sand drifts around the bottom, maybe a Wind Trap. The building would be easy enough from my experience with City terrain, although I'm not sure about the Wind Trap. My final idea was rock formations, similar to those seen in Pitch Black . My only problem is I have no good idea on how to model these. Maybe Styrofoam again? Any help, comments, pictures of your own boards with a similar theme would be muchly appreciated.

maybe you could use clay or something similar for the formations, only problem with that is that its a bit brittle but you could always coat it with something to solve that. a fun thing to do is go to a hardware store and get the smallest scale irrigation pipes, because they're actually the perfect size and look great on desert after they've been painted. also maybe an osasis?

yeah id probably make those out of foam again, just sand them conical and smooth. Also how about areas of Quicksand or something like a Sarlacc pit, Pyramids, you could make rules for a random Sandstorm/Whirlwind to run riot etc
